Malware is most often used to steal personal information, send junk email spam , or spread more malware. Unwanted Software sites are websites that try to trick you into installing programs that harm your browsing experience for example, by changing your homepage or showing extra ads on sites you visit.
You can learn more about such software on the Google Unwanted Software Policy. Phishing and Malware Protection works by checking the sites that you visit against lists of reported phishing, unwanted software and malware sites. These lists are automatically downloaded and updated every 30 minutes or so when the Phishing and Malware Protection features are enabled.
When you download an application file, Firefox checks the site hosting it against a list of sites known to contain "malware". These features are turned on by default so, unless your security settings have been changed, you are likely already using them. In the Menu bar at the top of the screen, click Firefox and select Preferences. Click the menu button and select Options Preferences.
Click the menu button and select Settings. Firefox will block the page from loading and display a Deceptive Site warning for phishing sites, Reported Unwanted Software Page for unwanted software sites and Reported Attack Page for malware sites.
If you download malware or other software that is potentially unwanted or uncommon, Firefox displays a message about the file in the Downloads panel. To ignore the warning and download such a file, right-click on it in the Downloads panel and select Allow Download. Just recently, users trying to download our zip files using Firefox have started getting "This file is not commonly downloaded" warnings after the download finishes , which forces them to override the warning before accessing the file via the Firefox download manager.
Naturally, this kind of warning causes concern for our users. The warning also only seems to show up for surprise, surprise files that have been more recently added to the site, and have relatively few total downloads--but many of our files never receive large numbers of downloads, so this warning has the potential to plague many of our files indefinitely.
My question is: is there anything I can do to prevent this warning? By adjusting headers, signing files in some way, etc.? From what I understand, Chrome and Edge also have "uncommon file" warning, but they don't seem to be concerned with our files--why is this warning only firing in Firefox? I've searched around on Stack Overflow and elsewhere, but most of the questions I've seen about "uncommon download" warnings are targeted at Chrome or Internet Explorer, and I can't seem to find any Firefox-specific information about this warning.
Here's a sample file download url generated by aws sdk that is causing warnings:. You may need to uncheck the options under the "General" section of that dialogue box. Simply unchecking "Warn me about unwanted and uncommon software" resolves this. Stack Overflow for Teams — Collaborate and share knowledge with a private group.

So, the images I saved- when I opened them, are opening in word pad. Which is what I use when I print text documents, but this is my file of mostly downloaded pics for my fb page I don't know why it was all OK before now I hate computers.
You are SO SO lucky if you understand them! On Windows 7, if I right-click an image, there is an item called "Open With", and if I click that, the last option is "Choose default program" which allows me to associate the file type with a different program. I did that and it asked me "How do you want to open this file? I assume NOT!! Can you attach a screenshot that shows the folder content in Details mode View menu , so we can check the file name and file extension?
